How to make Beef and broccoli

  • 1 lb (450g) beef steak (such as flank or sirloin), thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons oyster sauce
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1/2 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon ginger, minced
  • 4 cups broccoli florets
  • 1/2 cup beef broth or water
  • 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil (optional)
  • Salt, to taste
  • Cooked rice, for serving

Instructions:

  1. In a bowl, combine soy sauce, oyster sauce, cornstarch, sugar, and black pepper. Add the sliced beef to the bowl and toss to coat the beef with the marinade. Let it marinate for about 15-20 minutes.
  2. Heat vegetable oil in a wok or large skillet over medium-high heat.
  3. Add minced garlic and minced ginger to the hot oil. Stir-fry for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
  4. Add the marinated beef to the wok and stir-fry for a few minutes until the beef is browned and cooked to your desired doneness. Remove the beef from the wok and set it aside.
  5. In the same wok, add the broccoli florets and stir-fry for a few minutes until they are bright green and slightly tender.
  6. Pour beef broth or water into the wok and cover it with a lid. Let the broccoli steam for a few minutes until it is fully cooked but still crisp.
  7. Return the cooked beef to the wok with the broccoli.
  8. Add hoisin sauce to the wok and stir everything together to coat the beef and broccoli with the sauce.
  9. If desired, drizzle sesame oil over the dish and season with salt to taste.
  10. Remove from heat and serve hot with cooked rice.
