  • Dumpling wrappers (can be found at Asian grocery stores)
  • 1/2 pound ground pork
  • 1 cup finely chopped Chinese cabbage (Napa cabbage)
  • 2 green onions, finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon minced ginger
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • Water for sealing the dumplings

Instructions:

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground pork, Chinese cabbage, green onions, ginger, garlic, soy sauce, sesame oil, sugar, salt, and black pepper. Mix well until all the ingredients are evenly incorporated.
  2. To assemble the dumplings, hold a dumpling wrapper in the palm of your hand. Place about 1 tablespoon of the filling in the center of the wrapper.
  3. Dip your finger in water and moisten the edges of the wrapper.
  4. Fold the dumpling in half to create a half-moon shape, and then pinch the edges to seal the dumpling. Pleat the edges to create a decorative pattern if desired.
  5. Repeat the process until all the filling is used. You should end up with about 20-30 dumplings, depending on the size of the wrappers.
  6. To cook the dumplings, you can choose from the following methods:
    • Boiling: Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Carefully drop the dumplings into the boiling water and cook for about 6-8 minutes, or until they float to the surface. Remove the dumplings with a slotted spoon and serve.
    • Steaming: Place the dumplings on a greased steamer basket or lined with parchment paper. Steam the dumplings over high heat for about 12-15 minutes.
    • Pan-frying: Heat some oil in a non-stick skillet over medium-high heat. Place the dumplings in the skillet and cook until the bottoms turn golden brown, for about 2-3 minutes. Then, add a small amount of water to the skillet and cover with a lid. Steam the dumplings for another 4-5 minutes, or until the filling is cooked through.
  7. Serve the dumplings hot with dipping sauce, such as soy sauce mixed with a splash of rice vinegar or Chinese black vinegar.
  8. Enjoy your delicious homemade dumplings!
