How to make tandoori fish

Making tandoori fish is a delicious way to enjoy fish with the flavors of Indian spices. Here’s a simple recipe to make Tandoori Fish:

Ingredients:

  • 4-6 pieces of fish fillets (preferably firm fish like salmon, tilapia, or cod)
  • 2 tablespoons tandoori masala (available in Indian stores or online)
  • 1 tablespoon ginger-garlic paste
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons plain yogurt
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil or melted butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder (adjust to your spice preference)
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground coriander
  • Salt, to taste
  • Lemon wedges and fresh coriander leaves (cilantro) for garnish

Instructions:

  1. Clean and Marinate the Fish:
    • Rinse the fish fillets under cold water and pat them dry with paper towels.
    • Make 2-3 shallow cuts on each fillet to allow the marinade to penetrate better.
    • In a bowl, mix the tandoori masala, ginger-garlic paste, lemon juice, plain yogurt, vegetable oil or melted butter, red chili powder, turmeric powder, ground cumin, ground coriander, and salt. Combine everything well to form a smooth marinade.
    • Coat the fish fillets with the marinade, making sure they are evenly covered. You can use your hands to massage the marinade into the cuts for better flavor.
  2. Marinate the Fish:
    • Place the marinated fish in a shallow dish or a ziplock bag.
    • Cover the dish or seal the bag, and refrigerate for at least 1-2 hours to let the flavors infuse into the fish. For best results, you can marinate it overnight.
  3. Preheat the Oven or Grill:
    • Preheat your oven to 220°C (425°F) or preheat your grill to medium-high heat.
  4. Cook the Tandoori Fish:
    • If using an oven, line a baking tray with aluminum foil and lightly grease it with oil or cooking spray. Place the marinated fish fillets on the tray.
    • If using a grill, you can use a grill basket or grill directly on the grates. Make sure to oil the grill grates to prevent sticking.
    • Cook the fish for about 12-15 minutes in the oven or 6-8 minutes on the grill, turning once halfway through the cooking time. The cooking time may vary depending on the thickness of the fillets. The fish is done when it easily flakes with a fork and has a slightly charred appearance.
  5. Garnish and Serve:
    • Once the tandoori fish is cooked, remove it from the oven or grill.
    • Garnish with fresh coriander leaves (cilantro) and serve hot with lemon wedges on the side.
    • You can also serve it with naan bread, salad, or Indian mint chutney for a complete meal.

Enjoy your flavorful and succulent Tandoori Fish!
